Hi!
Even a message sent by kmail using HTML to format text is NOT recognized as HTML message and hence the formating is not shown.

This is a multipart/alternative mail, which contains both, the plain text _and_ the html part.
Depending on your choice of preference either the one or the other is shown by default (obviously your choice is the default, which is NO HTML).

If you want to see the HTML part, click on the HTML part of the mail in the mail structure viewer or select that you prefer HTML mail in the configuration dialog.
