Description Erik Wasser 2005-10-05 13:13:26 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Gentoo 3.3.6, ssp-3.3.6-1.0, pie-8.7.8)
OS: Linux

Sometimes I'm entering a lot of stuff into the To:, Bcc:, Cc: fields of a composing window for a new mail. I would like to see some optical feedback in the composing window depending on:

- the color/logo/photo I used for this email address in the address book

OR

- or a color or image I've assigned to the category of the owner of the email address in my address book

...so I can easily seperate which address is private and which is for business.

Example 1:

To [I1] : foo@foo.invalid
Cc [I2] : bar@bar.invalid
Cc ____ : bar@bar.invalid

[I1] and [I2] are logos I've assigned to the addresses via the address book.

Example 2:

To: foo@foo.invalid_____________
Cc: bar@bar.invalid_____________
Cc: bar@bar.invalid_____________

The background of the text input boxes (here marked with '_') should be filled with the color I've assigned to the address. But this could lead to bad readable input boxes because I can only use light pastel colors for the background. And changing the foreground color is a little bit too far.

Example 3:

To : [I1] foo@foo.invalid, [I2] bar@bar.invalid, ...

Maybe the image/logo of an address can be paint left of the email address. But this would be difficult because you have to change the input class box for this. B-)

I think assigning colors to individual addresses is easier to handle because they can be multiple categories per email address. So the question arises: which one should be used.

If I can assign a color or a logo to an address everything is clear. Because there is already the possibility to assign a photo or logo to an address, so kmail should use this photo in some way if you enter this email addresses with an assigned photo/logo.

If you enter multiple adresses in one line the optical feedback should be turned off.

Comments? Useful? Crap? Complicated?

Interesting idea.

I do see a problem with it though, in that you can assign multiple addresses in each field. Which color (if different) would take precedence? Also, with logos, theres the potential of a _very_ cluttered Address bar if sending to a large number of users, with each having his/her/its own logo.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
