Description Dik Takken 2005-09-26 19:59:26 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

Whenever I install a new ALSA version, all hidden KMix sliders appear again. All users of the machine are scared to death when they suddenly have 20+ sliders to choose from...

Is the soundcard name changing when you upgrade the soundcard driver?
Hint: You can see the name in the bottom right of the KMix main window.

I'm not sure if the card name changed, the only thing I do know for certain that the number of mixer channels and the mixer names change between ALSA versions.

All channels with new names will be shown. That would be "OK".
If *all* channels (even those whose name haven't changed) show again, this usually means that the card name has changed. There is currently no way to avoid this.

In any case, the soundcard driver upgrading procedure of KMix is erratic. This is known, and is fixed for KDE4.
I would like to proceed like this: While your bug is not exactly the same as bug 106189 , I want to join both bug reports, marking this bug report as duplicate. OK?
Comment 4 Dik Takken 2006-02-22 23:17:50 UTC
OK. :)

As agreed apun, marking as "dup".
