Version:           1.8.2 (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs
OS:                Linux

when disabling the threaded message list, in 
configure kmail -> appearance -> message list it hides the messages that were threaded prior.

the messages are not shown in the list, sorting doesn't help ether, but they can be found again by searching them in the search interface of kmail, then also the thread expands, when clicking on the mail. 

closing and restarting kmail helps, then the messages are all displayed again.

Think this is not valid with the new UI since KDE 4.2 any more
