Description Patrik Klinger 2005-09-15 16:01:38 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

If friends send me messages and I am connected with Kopete they show up as new animated messages in the contact list and blinks in the system tray.
Lets say that I dont open the new messages and shutdown Kopete. The next time I open Kopete and it logs in to the registered services (icq, msn ...) the unanswered messages does not show up as new messages anymore. This results in tha fact that all messages not answered before shutdown of Kopete are missed.

are you using the history plugin? If so, are you saying that if you
don't open a chat window to look at the messages that they aren't saved?

If you're not using the history plugin, then you shouldn't expect to be
able to view messages that you didn't view the first time.
Comment 2 Matt Rogers 2005-09-15 16:45:49 UTC
reopen, since i didn't want to close it in the first place.
Comment 3 Patrik Klinger 2005-09-16 18:55:34 UTC
Yes I am using the history plugin but that is not relevant to the scenario. If someone else shuts down Kopete (for example during a reboot of the machine) and I never saw the messages I had recieved then I will have missed them and never noticed that I was contacted at all.

What I mean is that as long as the user has not opened an arrived message it should not be discarded. The message should still be saved until the user chooses to open and red the message. That way no messages are missed.

I think this is a functionality that should be present in Kopete. As far as I know this is a standard behaviour in most IM klients.
Comment 4 Matt Rogers 2005-09-16 19:13:44 UTC
I would counter that I know of no such IM client that does it, therefore Kopete would be the first. Maybe that means we should do it before everybody else. ;)
Definately something to consider though, thanks. :)
