Description Iñaki Baz Castillo 2005-09-03 15:26:13 UTC
Version: desconocido (using KDE 3.4.1, Debian Package 4:3.4.1-1 (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Debian 1:3.3.6-5)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.10

Debian - Kde 3.4.1

In "Control Center" - "Desktop" - "Window behavior" - "Focus" the "focus policy" is "Press to focus" (may be "Click to focus", I'm not sure).

I have a Konqueror maximized (for example viewing man:/rsync) and in the left of the desktop I have a small Konsole to write commands (about rsync).

I have the focus in Konsole to write, but I need to do scroll down the man page. When I put the mouse over Konqueror (without cliking!!!) I move the scroll whell and Konsole loses the focus, so I can't write in it and have to click in Konsole to get again the focus.

It would be better if Konsole doesn't lose the focus. In fact, I haven't clicked with the mouse out of Konsole (just moved scroll whell), and my "focus policy" is "Press to focus", so I don't understand why Konsole loses the focus.

That's all ;)

That's because scroll wheel is a kind of click too. I think this is an intentional feature, but I may consider this.

What about an option like this?

[ ] Focus when movig scroll wheel over a unfocused window.

But in my opinion it would be better to don't focus when moving scroll
wheel.  ;

Thanks for your interesting.

I agree with the submitter. It would be (I believe) mostly useful if scrolling a window wouldn't be interpreted as a click.

Any new about this suggestion? it's NEW from long time ago.
Regards.

I also have the same wish as submitter, it could be neccessary for whoever writes something in an editor/console when reading (a long page) from another window as reference.

I managed to disable the other window from gaining focus by tweaking in "window-specific settings" in "system settings >> windows behavior", but in this case, that window will no long have focus even if you click on it.

A small option for this should be useful and human-friendly.

In KDE 4.1.2 I've noticed this behavior have changed - scrolling does not change the focus anymore.
I've found this bug because I miss this feature. Would it be possible to add another focus policy which does change the focus when you use the mouse scroll on a non-focused window? That way everybody's happy :)

Oh, I'm glad to found out that I'm not alone. I'm missing also possibility to give focus by scrolling in KDE 4, and with possibility to *not rise* window if focus is gained in that way.

For example: Im reading someting in browser while Konsole is bacground. It is very comfortable (in KDE 3.5) to scroll background window and/or insert commands without looseing sight to browser.

Should this "give focus by scrolling" && "not rise" be standalone feature request?
