Description Ferdinand Gassauer 2005-09-03 08:59:07 UTC
Version:           1.8.91 (using KDE 3.4.90 (alpha1, >= 20050806), compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.11.4-21.9-smp

Hi!

Once a while forwarding produces apparently "empty" message bodies.

looking at the source the text is there, but it is not displayed either in the sent-mail folder nor in the receipients mailclient (gmx)
Comment 1 Ferdinand Gassauer 2005-09-03 09:19:48 UTC
I just hit the standard forward button.

IMHO this only happens if no text (except the signature) is added to the forwarded mail.

adding some text on top - the forwarding works fine.

Comment 2 Ferdinand Gassauer 2005-09-03 10:04:35 UTC
the diff fo 2 forwarded messages shows

< Content-Type: Multipart/Alternative;
---
> Content-Type: text/plain;

text/plain; is shown correctly, with additional text

Multipart/Alternative; is not displayed

IMHO this also happens in 3.4
Comment 3 Ferdinand Gassauer 2005-09-14 08:29:52 UTC
this still happens in todays branch 3.5
Comment 4 Thanos Leontaris 2006-02-11 21:57:43 UTC
That's the case for me with the brand new KDE 3.5.1
It was also in KDE 3.5.0...

If I forward with "Shift-F" there are cases that the email appears empty (to me and the recipients)...The funny thing is that the content is still IN if viewing the source with "V".
Comment 5 Ferdinand Gassauer 2006-05-11 14:42:13 UTC
still happens in 3.5.2 on SuSE 10.0

looking into the source code, the forwarded message is there, but is not recognized by any mail reader (neither kmail-sent mail folder nor thunderbird nor outlook)

IMHO the forwarded text does not make the text area "dirty" as a manual input would do it.

see comment #1

similar actions like "send link address" with no manual input in the message text area work fine.

Same problem here, with pop/smtp email, on multiple computers, using Kmail 1.9.1 (KDE 3.5.2).
Inline forwarded messages of type multipart/alternative comes empty (they also look empty in the "sent" folder). As Ferdinand Gassauer said above, "looking into the source code, the forwarded message is there".
The workaround is to write something: don't select the email adress in the pop-up list but type it, add a letter in the subject or in the text.

Bug <a href="http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120073">120073</a> look similar.

Kmail set a wrong content-type and remove the html part of the message.
I tested by forwarding an email 2 times.
- the first one comes "empty". Here's some of the header:
Content-Type: Multipart/Alternative;
  charset="iso-8859-1"
X-SpamScore: 1.179
	tests= MIME_MISSING_BOUNDARY
But the email contain only text, the html part was removed.
- the second one comes ok (I changed the subject). Headers:
Content-Type: text/plain;
  charset="iso-8859-1"
X-SpamScore:   0

Those are the only differences (except the time informations).

This bug should be fixed in KDE 3.5.3.
