Description greatbunzinni 2005-08-30 19:03:24 UTC
Version: 1.8.2 (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)

The status filter always switches to the "any status"option after each and any small operation.

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature but because it is very annoying, I decided to post here.

Just to make clear: You're talking about the message filter above the message
list, do you? "Each and any small operation" might be a folder change, right?

Hi there Andreas

Yes, it's the message filter which is located on top and to the right of the message list.

While investigating a way to replicate the bug (it happened to me a lot but I only decided to submit the bug today) I stumbled on something which is a bug but I don't know if it can be considered directly related to this bug report.

What happened was that I had two emails in my inbox. Only one was unread. I selected the unread one and switched the message filter list to "unread". Then, I deleted the unread mail. What happened was that although no message was listed in the message list (due to the filter), kmail automatically opened the unread message.

About the "folder switching", the filter is indeed switched back to "any status". Unfortunately, when I select the previous folder, the filter doesn't switch back to the selected filter. Apparently that means that the filter always defaults to "any status" and doesn't pay attention to the user's choices. IMHO kmail would improve a lot if the filter state which the user selected was always preserved.

KMail keeps the selected message visible in the preview pane. We could consider that as a minor bug. Feel free to file a separate report with an appropriate subject.

It depends on your workflow. I prefer the current behavior which resets the quick search bar on a folder change. I would not like to have to reset it manually in most cases. A configurability (sticky option for folder change) would be a solution. If you're looking for folder specific searches preserved even on restarts, you should better use search folders (AKA virtual folders).

I change this report to reflect the wish for a sticky option.
