Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs It would be useful if you could associate/connect files with other files/information. This association could then be used when one of the files is clicked on (in the context-menu thingy). For example: The file acroread could be associated with: www.adobe.com support@adobe.com The acrobat documentation e.g help.html bugzilla When a user right clicks on acroread, the menu could offer related options like: visit adobe.com email support@adobe view the documentation submit a bug report You could also add a "search the web for <filename>" item. This would make it easier for new users to find help about a given program. Rather than having to open a help centre and search for appropriate help, it would be only one or two clicks to go straight to the appropriate help file. Adobe could provide newer versions of acroread with suitable associations already included. By providing a "visit adobe.com" option the user would know where to find newer versions of a file. * When a file is downloaded an association to the source could automatically be added. * Taking the idea even further: Supposing I have a picture on my desktop (picture1.png). It could be a picture of me and my friend "Bob" at a Liverpool Football Match. I could associate the picture with "Bob" I could associate the picture with www.liverpoolfc.tv I could associate the picture with 13/08/2005 I could associate the picture with football + liverpool I could associate the picture with the highlights of the game I downloaded (highlights.avi) I could associate the picture with you'll_never_walk_alone.ogg I could associate the picture with ticketmaster.com Now when I click on the picture of me and "Bob" at the match I would get options like: Contact "Bob" Visit liverpoolfc.tv View calendar for 13/08/2005 View highlights Listen to you'll never walk alone Visit ticketmaster Once these associations are created there would also be similar options within programmes: When I view the contact "Bob" I would get options like view pictures with "bob". When I view the highlights I get options like listen to you'll never walk alone or contact bob. Websites could also use these associations: If I go to ticketmaster it could offer me information on liverpool football matches. Such a system would increase productivity and make things seem more logical/useable to new users.

Sounds like tags. We have tags now. :) Also sounds like the contextual actions provided by the Purpose framework. We have that too! :)
