Version: 1.2.0 (using KDE KDE 3.4.2) Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package OS: Linux Some applications use a "descript.ion" file for the comments of each picture. Instead of using the comment meta-data of EXIF, the descript.ion file has a sequence of lines with the format: <fileName> <description> so when a image is being shown, the "descript.ion" file is looked in the current directory. If it exists, it is scanned for searching the description of the file. For example, if a directory contains three files: imgp2000.jpg imgp2001.jpg imgp2002.jpg and it also contains a descript.ion file with the content: imgp2000.jpg That's me in Copenhagen imgp2001.jpg Tivoli entrance imgp2002.jpg The Little Mermaid it would be great that gwenview, when showing the imgp2000.jpg, showed "That's me in Copenhagen" as comment. Obviously, descript.ion file is quite unstable. If any picture is renamed, it doesn't work any more. On the other hand, I assume that a problem of priority would appear if a image has comment in the EXIF information, and also a descript.ion file exists. Maybe an option could be provided for the user to select the priority ("i prefer EXIF comment over descript.ion file" or whatever). Even some kind of capability could be added to copy descriptions from EXIF to the descript.ion file and vice versa. And a way to add a comment in the descript.ion file of the current directory would also be great. Thank you very much for your fantastic work!!
Ideally, this comment data should be displayed as a file column alongside name/type/size/date/etc, as ACDSee and XNView handle it.
I need this too
What is descript.ion? Is this something that's still used at all today in 2017?
