Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.2) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux In the KPDF Find dialog box, many options besides Case Sensitive (e.g., Whole Words, Find Backwards, Selected Text) are always disabled (grayed out, ghosted), and I cannot figure out how to enable them so I can, for instance, use Whole Words to search for a short abbreviation without having to go through every word that contains those letters. I tried several different PDF files, and I tried renaming KPDF's config files in my home directory to make sure it wasn't a configuration issue. There was no change. If there is a reason that they are disabled, perhaps the UI should make it more clear why they are disabled. If these features are not to be implemented, perhaps they should be removed from the dialog entirely.
The features never worked so having them disabled is the right thing.
The original reporter is actually right. If there is no way to enable the options it doesn't make sense to gray them out since users may wonder how to enable them. In the end they possibly blame themselves for not finding the appropriate switch (which apparently doesn't exist). Such a situation should be avoided by any means. So please remove the options which aren't available and can't be made available.
Florian really wanted to reopen the bug :-D
Florian Graessle was absolutely right when he said "In the end they possibly blame themselves for not finding the appropriate switch (which apparently doesn't exist)." in comment #2. I am a live example of that! I wasted couple of hours on this "non existing" feature trying to fiddle around with configuration files, creating new users and if the problem persists, experimenting with different pdf files etc., Please disable this remove the options completely if kpdf is not capable of doing it (eg: search backwards etc.,). raju
Closing this bug. kpdf is no longer under development and the okular team has implemented a different search widget. If you have problems using the okular search widget please open a separate bug.
