Description Jim Townsend 2005-08-03 03:04:00 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs
OS: Linux

When selecting the filter for displaying'NEW' articles, I don't see new articles after they've been marked READ.

When using Knode in versions prior to 0.9.1 when I finished reading a group I would mark all articles as READ and move on to the next one. I do this using the one-click option on the toolbar widget with the two black feet.

Sometimes I want to go back to a group and review one of the new messages that I've marked as read.. Since I have my default filter set up to only show UNREAD articles, no articles are displayed.

Normally selecting the 'NEW' article filter, all the new messages downloaded from the time I started Knode would be displayed whether I read them or not. Ignored messages and custom filtered messages would be displayed as well.

In knode 0.9.1 when I go back to a newsgroup I just marked as read and then try view the articles by selecting the NEW filter, nothing is displayed. The only way to see new articles marked as read is to select ALL which isn't desireable because it shows all the messages in the cache and not just the ones newly downloaded in the current session.

I've inspected the properties of NEW and on the status tab of the filter it shows: Is new - true

Since 0.9.0 KNode marks article as 'not new' as soon as you leave the current group. This has been changed to match the behaviour of KMail.

Is there a better reason why this has changed? "To match the behaviour of KMail" sounds not reasonable enough for me. Has this been discussed somewhere? If yes, could someone please provide a link to this discussion?

I also prefer the old behaviour that "new" articles persists the whole KNode session or at least until the next fetch.

The person who changed this behaviour should have implemented at least an OPTION for it, where users could turn that off.

It's still present in KNode 0.10.4.

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug.
