Description Amund Sjaavaag 2005-07-18 11:02:52 UTC
Version: 1.8.1 (using KDE 3.4.2, Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.3 (Mandrakelinux 10.2 3.4.3-7mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11-6mdk

Sometimes kmail stops filtering new messages.
It happens when any error message pops up in a window, and kmail waits for the user to to click Continue or Cancel.

 This is a problem:
If the user is out of office, the filter process will wait until he is back.

It does not happen often, but i have experienced this at least twice this summer.

In my opinion, the filtering should be background processes working independent of any user. If any operation fails, like deleting a message, or moving a message to a folder, i wish kmail would keep on filtering new messages.

Error - Kmail

Connection to Server Closed Unexpectedly
Although a connection was established to imap.online.no, the connection was
closed at an unexpected point in the communication.

The error message that pop ups

There are 2 issues here:

1: Kmail tries for any reason to make folders that already exists, and some
frustrating pop ups comes with error-messages like this:
"Error while uploading folder
Could not make the folder forldername on the server... "
Sometimes this error message appear, even if i have no filter that moves mails
to that particular folder. Attached is snapshots of windows that shows what
kind of error message it is, and there is a proof that shows the folder realy
exists.
2: Kmail stops processing the filters when the error messages pops up. That is
problem if you are away from the computer for a long time.

You didn't specify which account type you're using. I guess it's disconnected IMAP, right?

Anyway, you're using KMail from KDE 3.4.x. There have been lots of improvements in KMail 1.9.x compared to the 1.8.x versions and IMO it's very likely that your special problem has been fixed. So please try an update of your KDE installation and check it out.

I'm sorry to say it, but there is almost no chance to get the problem fixed in KMail 1.8.x as the development capacity is splitted anyway between KDE 3.5 and KDE 4. We simply lack the resources to fix such difficult reproducible bugs in older versions.

Yes, it is disconnected IMAP.

My current version of Kmail is 1.9.1(Using KDE 3.5.1)
It is a long time since i have been running KDE 3.4.

$ rpm -q kdepim-kmail
kdepim-kmail-3.5.1-6.mdk2006.0.mde

Yesterday i had some problems with kmail 1.9.3: It stopped filtering incoming e-mails, when i was away from office.
When i entered the office today, there was a popup-window saying, 'Could Not Delete Resource', and there was a popup-window saying 'Connection Closed'.
