Version: 2.4.1 (using KDE KDE 3.4.1) Installed from: Slackware Packages Compiler: GCC 3.3.5 32-bit OS: Linux Steps to reproduce before long, english desc: 1) Open Kdevelop. 2) Change a keybinding. 3) See it affect other applications unintentionally (Kate). 4) Unable to adjust Kate back to the way it was using the Kate dialog. 5) Unable to adjust Kate back via the control centre. I opened up KDevelop to see what it was like. Inside Kdevelop, I said, "I want F2 to save documents, since that matches how I work inside a terminal Window". And it was so. Then I went into Kate, and hit ctrl+s. It did not save anymore. Curious, I opened up the shortcut thing. Indeed, it also used F2 to save now. "Hmm, this is not what I expected, nor what I desired. If I wanted it to act differently, the UI should be more obvious. Bollocks." So I set it to use ctrl+s manually. Except it still didn't work. "Bother, there must be some weird session bug," I muttered. So I set, via the control panel, that the main method of saving be Ctrl+S, and nothing else. I logged out and reloaded KDE. The control panel still reflected ctrl+s. Then I went into Kate. And, as you may guess, the save shortcut was still F2. I have no idea why. It will not pick up the global setting now, despite it becoming broken via a global setting. I'm not sure why Kate refuses to have its local shortcut change. The hotkey modifiers in general, while nice that they can be global, should be application specific. If I change them via the control panel, I expect them to be updated in all applications that are set to GLOBAL. However, in the case I change it, I'd like this to be relected. IE: Shortcut action | Global | $Application Save current File | Ctrl+S | F2 This makes it obvious, and easier to figure out how to fix things; I could just say, "Use global" (vs. default, which is ambigous). This might be related to bug 32446.

this shortcut stuff needs library support, atm that is not doable in a sane way
