Description Enric Caussa 2005-07-14 17:04:45 UTC
Version: 1.3BETA2 (using KDE KDE 3.4.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

For example: an album of BBKing of which most of the tracks have a featured artist, shouldn't have to be marked as a compilation, but a regular album. There are many times i see this bug (but it's compresnsible), for example, in Cypress Hill albums, etc.

The same with me and I would like to add something.
If you have a CD from Artist A and on this CD is a Track "Artist A feat Artist B - Song 1" Artist A feat Artist B appears as own Artist.

I'd like to see Artist A and there "Song 1 (feat Artist B) instead.

Similarily, I have a number of songs (Example: Iron & Wine playing with The Shins) I have to have two copies of the song: one marked as a Shins song, another marked as Iron & Wine so that it will show up in both artist songlists. Even more, there are songs that can appear on two of an artists albums. At the moment I have to choose and leave it off the listing for the second album - or create a playlist instead, which will still show the other album cover during that songs playback.
Picky, yes.
But looking at the edit tag dialog, many of those options (Musicbrainz, composer, comments) are not used by me ever.
What if there was an advanced button that expanded to this and you could add more artists and albums could be added.
Does Taglibs/id3 support more than one artist/album for a file??
And for users that dont want to click the advanced tag all the time, there can be an option to always show advanced.
Just ideas

Another (better?) long-term solution to this problem is to take advantage of ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4's ability to contain several separated artists.

ID3v2.3 supports multiple artists by putting all the artists inside TPE1 and separates them with the "/" character.

ID3v2.4 also supports this, but uses a NULL byte to separate the artists instead of the "/" character.

Apparently all the popular audio containers supports separated artists in their tags (APEv2, ASF, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4, Native FLAC and vorbiscomment).

I've reported bug #137756 with more information regarding this, and hope that the Amarok developers will implement this feature, there's no other music playback app afaik that takes advantage of audio containers multiple separated artist support.

The audio containers listed above also supports multiple tags/values other than the artist tags/values.

This would really set Amarok apart from the rest of the players.
