Description kdebugs 2005-06-16 12:53:45 UTC
Version: 1.8 (using KDE 3.4.0 Level "b" , SUSE 9.3)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11.4-21.7-default

I'd like to have the possibility to view all messages in the subfolders of an folder.

The advantage: you can see several similar mailing lists in different views. In "suse" you could sort all messages by incoming date and see all the new messages at once. In the subfolders "suse-kde", "suse-laptop" and "suse-announce" you could prefer the threaded view and follow the discussions in context.

This option must not be the default, but it would be a nice extension.

How about using a search folder for the view over the single folders? This
should allow doing what you're looking for.

Why not create a named search folder for this? Search in all those folders,
give the search a name, save, a search folder ("virtual folder") will appear.

Thanks, this actually works. But the virtual folder is not in the line. Will it cost processing time?

My suggestion would IMHO be a little more logical ;-)

What do you mean by "is not in the line"?

A little, the search folder has to be updated when new messages arrive in those folders.
Shouldn't be a big problem though.

But much less flexible (it would solve one need, whereas search folders solve 100 needs)

Ah, sure, it's after everything else. That sounds like a separate wish though.

I think it is a part of the subfolder concept. What are benefits of subfolders without such kind of features?

Hierarchical organization of folders.
Comment 9 kdebugs 2005-06-17 13:37:04 UTC
Another observation: when I delete duplicates in the search folder, they are not deleted in the real folders.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
