Description Stefan Winter 2005-06-13 10:29:26 UTC
Version: 3.4.1 (using KDE 3.4.1 Level "a" , SUSE 9.2 UNSUPPORTED)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-24.14-default

When visiting a web page and using "Back", at times the status bar shows the status text of the previously visited page when it was changed on that page.
TEST CASE:
- visit www.eduroam.org
- click on the "Latvia" hotspot (LANET)
- this page displays "Welcome to LANET WWW server" in the status bar when finshed loading
- click back (the status bar says "page loaded" fine)
- hover the mouse over any of the hotspots and out again
- then the status bar again reads "Welcome to LANET WWW server"
Comment 1 Stefan Winter 2007-07-17 11:30:14 UTC
still present in 3.5.7
Comment 2 FiNeX 2008-04-07 00:24:22 UTC
Cannot reproduce on konqueror 4.0.3 because the website has changed some weeks ago (according to the news on the homepage).
It could be useful a testcase.
Comment 3 Stefan Winter 2008-04-07 10:21:30 UTC
The map in question is still there, now reachable directly via:

http://www.eduroam.org/?p=europe

Just reproduced in 3.5.7 again with the new homepage layout. This is still a valid testcase. I don't have a KDE 4.0 Konqueror handy... :-(
Comment 4 FiNeX 2008-04-07 17:34:40 UTC
Thanks for the updated link. I've reproduced the bug on konqueror trunk (revision 794403).

KDE version (4.1.3) "release 55.1" [last probably internal to OpenSuSE]
Konqueror version also reported as 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 55.1"

In KDE 4.1 (running in OpenSuSE 11), the status bar of Konqueror is sometimes overwritten by content from a tab. This happens especially when the Konqueror state is saved when I log out, and log in again. The effect is erratic (I can hear your groans from here :)).

Workarounds: either adjust the size of the window (may cause the status bar to redisplay) or do this and switch to a new desktop, pause and return to the original desktop.

Comment 6 Lorenzo Capretta 2009-04-04 20:02:59 UTC
Confirmed on Konqueror 4.2.2, opensuse 11.1, but happens with most web pages
Not only there is text dislayed on the status bar, but sometimes the status bar gets the focus and I can scroll the web page displayed on the status bar but not that on the main window...
Comment 7 Jan Essert 2009-04-15 09:15:26 UTC
I can confirm the situation of comment #6 on gentoo, using konqueror 4.2.2 on qt-4.5.

This happens mostly when restoring a session. I can also confirm the status bar getting focus, which is very confusing :)
Comment 8 Thomas Bartschies 2009-04-25 14:34:12 UTC
I can confirm this too on fedora 10 with kde 4.2.2 and qt 4.4.*,4.5.1.
It happens for me explictly in minimized konqueror windows on session
restoration. Window has to have multiple browser tabs open.

Sidebar and Statusbar are overwritten by html contents.

Since KDE 4.2 scrolling within the tabs is broken too. Works only with the
sidebar. Using Cursor Keys makes only the top and bottom of the page moving
and destroys the content view in the process.
Comment 9 Sérgio Basto 2009-05-14 05:04:19 UTC
with a .kde clean , same happens ?
please add a nes user and try with this new user
Comment 10 Thomas Tanghus 2009-05-14 10:28:06 UTC
In Konqueror 4.2.2 the statusbar is distorted with the contents of a previously shown page.
Confirmed on Kubuntu 9.04 updated from 8.04 and on fedora kdebase-4.2.2-3.fc10.i386.

The statusbar has other problems like not showing extentions when needed or showing them when not needed but I guess this should be filed as another bug?
I'll attach a screenie.

This is the statusbar when viewing bugs.kde.org. Notice in the middle a part of another page.

Konqueror Sidebar Badly Rendered

Here is another example. This is in Fedora 10 KDE 4.2.2.
Comment 13 Álvaro Villalba 2009-08-10 15:25:17 UTC
I'm also experiencing the bug you describe in the last 3 comments in KDE 4.3.0 (Arch Linux). But, isn't it a different bug from the one explained at the beginning of the thread? Is there an specific thread for this issue?
Comment 14 Thomas Tanghus 2009-08-10 15:47:51 UTC
#13: yes it seems like a different bug but the subject is good for this one too :-)

Problem still present in kde-4.3 on amd64.
Comment 16 Marijn Schouten 2009-09-18 15:02:13 UTC
Still there in kde-4.3.1
Comment 17 Vitor M. Pereira 2009-09-18 15:34:27 UTC
With regards to comment #15, when that happens, if I go around my open tabs, I eventually find the one from where the stray text in the status bar belongs. When this tab is activated, the status bar gets fixed for all the other tabs.
Comment 18 Cristian Oneț 2009-12-11 20:58:22 UTC
I am observing exactly the same behaviour as described in comments 15 and 17 on gentoo amd64 using version 4.3.3 .
Comment 19 Thomas Tanghus 2009-12-11 21:14:54 UTC
Also still in KDE SC 4.3.4 on Kubuntu 9.10.
Comment 20 Jedd 2009-12-18 17:05:58 UTC
I see that there is bug #187012, which might be folded into here. This bug has been around since 3.x days, so is probably not the same bug anymore (?).

In any case - I see the problem as being predictable and replicable - on a new .kde directory too.

To replicate - open up a web-browse profile of konqueror. Open up one or more extra tabs. Open up web pages on those tabs. Ensure your session management remembers your currently opened applications. Log out, and back in again, and you'll see that the status bar is corrupted. Once you go to EACH of the tabs in turn, the status bar is fixed - but only once they are ALL visited.

(The feature to hide the status bar is lost in KDE 4, so I can't test whether hiding and enabling it again would resolve. Ho hummm.)

Anyway, it's possible that it's a weird nVidia problem - but this seems unlikely as I get the same bug even when I don't have desktop effects, or when I'm using the crappy nv driver. I'm curious if others are on non-nVidia hardware though, just in case.

I've attached - or hopefully will attach - some example screen shots of a konqueror window with several tabs, showing the different corruption that occurs on the status bar as I move through the tabs, until the final one is visited. This might be redundant, as I gather this is replicable on every KDE 4 instance?

In my experience, the corrupted bar renders the contents of some other open tab. It gets fixed once you visit that particular tab, even without visiting all others that might be open.

"I'm curious if others are on non-nVidia hardware though, just in case."

I use an Intel 82865G on-board, cheapo chip and have the problem too. This is on a new Kubuntu 9.10 installation upgraded to KDE SC 4.3.4.
Comment 26 Jedd 2010-03-13 23:51:15 UTC
I haven't been able to reproduce this bug with KDE 4.4.1 (Debian pre-experimental packages).

I used to see this consistently on the couple of dozen konq windows I kept going between sessions, so I'm pretty confident it's fixed now.

I've just installed Karmic Koala (KDE spin of Ubuntu 9.10) PPA 4.4.1 here: it looks like the problem has indeed been fixed. I've got a 7-tab Konqueror window saved from an earlier (4.3) session that does not show the texts from other tabs on the Status Bar.

Will look at this further & let you know.

I also haven't seen this bug for a very long time now. In fact can't even remember when I saw it last. So it is also fixed for me.

Ok, closing.
Comment 33 FiNeX 2011-09-15 08:58:41 UTC
I confirm the bug is no more reproducible on recent KDE 4 versions.

Thanks to all for the feedback!
