Description Timothy Baldwin 2005-06-12 23:39:09 UTC
Version: 1.2 (using KDE 3.3.2, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Debian 1:3.3.6-5)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11-teb11

When attempting to export bookmarks in Mozilla format to a root owned directory, no error message is shown.

It should of course complain about the directory not being writtable.
Comment 1 Timothy Baldwin 2005-07-30 01:27:31 UTC
Still present in KDE 3.4.1.
Comment 2 Martin Fabian Hohenberg 2005-12-02 12:18:46 UTC
this is still valid in 3.5.0 and in fact, kind of dangerous, as the user thinks his export was successful and might start to delete some of his bookmarks. Action on this is certainly advisable.
Comment 3 Daniel Teske 2005-12-02 16:32:06 UTC
Non trivial to fix.
Comment 4 Martin Fabian Hohenberg 2005-12-02 18:28:43 UTC
How about a workaround then? Something like:

1) Get contents of target directory
2) write
3) get contents of target directory and check they are different from the ones in 1)

Now it shows an error message, window title is "Netscape not found - Bookmark Editor" with the text "Could not find /home/tim/.mozilla/test.html. Netscape is probably not installed. Aborting the export." and fails regardless of if the location is accessible.

Tested Bookmarks Editor 5.0 on Debian testing/buster on armhf.
