Version: 1.8.1 (using KDE KDE 3.4.1) Installed from: SuSE RPMs Compiler: GCC 3.3.5 SuSE 9.3 default compiler OS: Linux I have the following problem with KMail (Screenshot attached): Umlauts are displayed correct in the message text, but not correctly in the message title. If I open the mbox-file with kate, everything is shown correctly.
Created attachment 11364 [details] This picture shows the problem
I could reproduce this with the subject 'source' like this: Subject: Fwd: =?utf-8?q?Fl=FCge_zu_den_World_Sports_Awards?= 2005
If you want a copy of this mail to reproduce the bug, just mail me. I'll return a copy as soon as possible. Additionally, I've added a mbox-file containing this mail.
ThomasZ: that Subject is obviously broken, because 0xFC cannot appear by itself in UTF-8. Nikolai: it is very likely that your message is broken as well. There are many (far too many) mailers that refuse to implement RFC 2047 (part of the MIME specification). They are BROKEN. KMail isn't. So, please it would do everyone good if the authors of the program in question were informed of the bug in their side. That said, there are initiatives on KMail to workaround that issue. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 95157 ***
Just rechecked - some mails do have Umlauts in their subjects displayed correctly - therefore, the problem is the senders mail client, you are right.
