Instead, kdevelop displays an error message saying that there has been a tag mismatch. This seems to be an encoding mismatch. By not declaring an encoding, the XML file is in UTF-8 and I suppose that the accent was not coded in UTF-8. Have a nice day!

Indeed. If I change the first line to <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> it works! Thanks again for the hint.
