Description Alexandre Pereira 2005-05-05 12:46:10 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

when using kmail systray , it always brings the window back to the virtual desktop that the app started.
i mean , if i started kmail in desktop 3 , if i am in desktop 1 , it will switch to desktop 3.

this is bad because other apps dont do this.

even akregator in kontact doesnt do this , so using kmail in kontact is a bit unbehaving ( since one app does one thing , and the other does another )

it would be good if kmail systray opened the kmail window in the current virtual desktop like other apps do

thanx :)

I agree - you can't work properly with it. For example, if you are on desktop 1 and have quanta opened and see you just got a new mail and want to read it and then KMail sends you to desktop 3, you have to switch back do desktop 1 to be able to work in quanta again. This is veeery annoying.

Fix kmai systray behaviour

Hi!

KMails systray behaviour was not to my liking so here is a patch to make KMail
behave like JuK and other systray enabled applications. (The patch is against
the KDE 3.4.2 version.)

I just noticed that my patch does not fix it totally. If KMail is behind another window it is not raised as it should :(

This bug report is about the same issue as Bug 74938 (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74938), but the title of this bug report is more describing. I have a new patch for this issue (taken from ksystemtray.cpp), but I'm posting it to 74938.

Thanks for noticing. Bug 74938 is marked NEW, so adding this one as duplicate.

Comment 6 Alexandre Pereira 2009-12-21 16:36:17 UTC
reopening this bug and removing the duplicate setting.

since the duplicate it was related to was marked fixed, but this bug's behaviour is still hapenning.

this bug report is still valid and not a duplicate, since it seems that the other bug report mentions about minimized window states, not virtual desktops as this one ( i think ) :)

thanks :)

It has been like this in 3.5, and is still in 4.5.
It's really really annoying.

This bug has been resolved in r1200286, by a patch submitted to resolve Bug 74938. KMail will now appear at the virtual desktop that the user is in (when minimised), and not the virtual desktop where it was minimised.

Thank you, closing.
