Version: 0.8 (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: Debian stable Packages Compiler: gcc 3.3.5 OS: Linux In the folderview you don't see how many pictures are in a folder: http://pooh.tam.uiuc.edu/digikam/dates-with-filter.png In my opinion this is one of the reasons why a "timeline" is better in some cases. KimBaDa implements your "folderview" like this: http://ktown.kde.org/kimdaba/tour/browser_overview.jpg My wish is that you implement this as well. Furthermore, please add the number of picture after the name of the folder like KMail does for the number of mails: 2005 |___February (17) |___March (299)
you are asking us to change the design of digikam. here are the reasons which I gave some days back in the digikam-devel mailing list as to why we decided to go for the folder based views: the timeline widget will show you a linear display of _all_ months/year even though many of those months/years might not have any photos in them. with the folder based listing of dates, only those months and years are shown for which there is at least one photo. so your miss-to-hit ratio when you access a particular month is practically zero. In addition, the timeline widget is always present in apps which use it. in digiKam you have the flexibility of hiding away the date view. (and it fit wells with the concept of albums, tags views we already have. select a folder representation for a tag, album or date and you get to see all items corresponding to it).
I agree with the pro-arguments you just stated. What do you say about the idea to add the number of photos in the folder? >In addition, the timeline widget is always present in apps which use it. in >digiKam you have the flexibility of hiding away the date view. I don't understand this: You are using a tab-bar to enter the "date-mode". Why can't you hide/show the timeline-widget like you show/hide the "date-folders"?
