Description shift 2005-04-20 09:29:28 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.4.0 Level "a" , unofficial build of SUSE )
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-7.147-default

The current implementation of disconencted_imap (d-imap) does not do
what it is ought to: giving access to mail while being disconnected from network.

The necessity of this feature is extreamily high for modem dial-up users, but d-imap is not quite suitable for this purposes for them: During its first sync it attempts to download ALL the mail available on the server. For example: in my case it results in 200MB !! (mostly -- mail archives stored in separate folders, to save traffic i keep my INBOX pretty small). doing it via modem (33.6kbps) takes forever.

Even after this is done, downloading ALL new mail from server at every sync is not an option as well, because in my particular case it results in ~5MB a day (from maillists) which task about an hour in my case.

What i'd like to see is something like MozillaThunderbird has -- a middle between imap and d-imap modes in KMail:
On every connect to my IMAP server i have all new messages listed,
and only those are cached on which i clicked to read, and they remain accessible later in offline mode.

Could you check if this also happens in a standalone version of KMail? If so, the bug belongs with the product KMail instead of Kontact. Of course, checking with the latest version of KDE (3.5.5) would be prefered.

Moving to KMail for the moment, since it seems unlikely this is a kontact bug (and we can always move it back if it is)

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
