Description Leo Savernik 2005-04-19 12:32:50 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

As a spinoff of bug 101626, kopete now displays an error message when the network goes down, and kopete cannot connect to the icq server anymore.

As disconnecting the network is a frequent task on modem lines, kopete should gracefully go offline and not nag the user about it (he'll know anyways because he disconnected it).

Isn't this what the Connection Status plugin is meant to do?
Comment 2 Lloeki 2006-06-14 15:10:46 UTC
I guess connection status plugin is meant to automate connection when network is available. it seems to silence some errors though, but not all, which puzzles me about its role. I don't think silencing error messages should belong to it.
what about going to "configure notifications"? using kopete 0.12 there's a "connection has been lost" notification. on a more general note, I think all error reporting setup (incl. silencing) should go there and not be auto-handled by the connection status plugin.

After some more testing, it appears that the "configure notifications" area just does nothing at silencing these errors. I'd swear I hided them this way under kde3.4's kopete.

I can confirm this problem using the newest Kubuntu 6.10 (Kopete 0.12.3, KDE 3.5.5), and it is really bad for me, because I often loose the Internet connection in university. And every time a OSD for ICQ and a normal alert for Jabber turns up, what is bad for the work flow.
I hope this problem will be fixed soon... :-)

This problem still exists in todays kopete svn from kde4. I disabled everything in notifications, but kopete won't shut up. The best for me would be:

kopete just tries to stay connected as best as it can. If it does disconnect, it should be possible to supress this message in notification settings. So that you can have a totally quiet kopete.

I don't have this problem any longer... I guess we can close this?

Can I close this bug?

I can't test it any more. Therefore I'm not sure.

I don't see any notifications from Kopete after disconnecting the network. Must have been fixed in http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revision&revision=1219459 and backported to 4.6 in http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revision&revision=1219462
