Description Larry Vitali 2005-04-08 00:30:07 UTC
Version: 0.44 (using KDE 3.3.2, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS: Linux (i586) release 2.6.7

My Visioneer OneTouch 8600 USB Scanner is not being detected by Kooka. All attempts at trying to start and restart the program makes no difference. If I try to use Settings/Configure Kooka the only confirmation is that the OCR settings have changed and I need to restart the program. Even though I did not make any changes. The interface of the program looks nothing like the screenshot in the help manual. Mepis detects my scanner at startup so the OS already knows it's there but Kooka shows nothing. I have not used Linux all that long so I really don't know what more info I can send you or what else I can try. Please help.
Thanks

Did you try the command sane-find-scanner? If its there its a problem with kooka. If not its a problem with sane. If it can't find anything as a regular user try running sane-find-scanner as root. If its there look at the man page for sane-find-scanner to find out what to do with the premissions. Also it might need firmware. Check out the sane homepage to check.

Thank you for the info. Unfortunately I quit using Mepis and went back to Winblows 98. After making the upgrade to Winblows XP I never tried another Distro of Linux until just recently when I found Freespire. I now use a dual boot option for Winblows or Freespire. I have had no problems with Freespire and now I think eventually I will be using Linux as my main OS. Linux has come a long way in under two years when I first made this post. I use PCLinuxOS 2007 on my laptop exclusively and network with my Winblows OS seamlessly. It also networks with Freespire great too. However setting up a network printer when it's attached to only one computer has been a nightmare. The printer itself does not have an ethernet card so it must be attached to one of the networked computers. Any fix for this would be appreciated also.
