What do you mean with "identity connected to that account"? There is no association between an account and an identity. Did you set your identity for the folder that contains the email?
let me re-phrase: it should be possible to configure an identity for "this folder and all subfolders" instead of just the folder. moreover, i think this should be possible on an account basis, i.e. create an identity, create an account, configure that account to be linked with that identity. especially with imap accounts...
