Description Kevin Goeser 2005-04-01 14:06:07 UTC
Version: 1.8 (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

Kmail can't scan encrypted messages! I don't know if some viruses already use this to get through the scanners.
At the moment, the filters always get the encrypted message, even if it has been decrypted before.

- The easiest way to get kmail to scan encrypted messages would be, to allow the filters to get the decrypted message. The user could manualy apply the (virus-)filter after decrypting the message.
- The best way would be, if it was possible to configure kmail to scan the message directly after decrypting it (so it could be e.g. deleted before it is shown).

Some viruses are sent within a password-protected and therfore encrypted file (e.g. zip). If it was possible to recognise these files, kmail could at least warn the user that the file might not have been scanned.

This bug report could be a wish, too. But I leave it as bug, since it is security related.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
