Description Stéphane Magnenat 2005-03-28 11:42:05 UTC
Version: 1.8 (using KDE 3.4.0, Debian Package 4:3.4.0-0pre2 (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.9-1-686-smp

Hello,

Using kmail 1.8 (Debian packages from http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/, KDE 3.4 rc1), right-mouse-button suggestions from spell checker are using the wrong encoding: accents are displayed using two characters: it looks like UTF-8 multibytes are interpreted as several iso-8859-1 characters. Suggestions from the spelling window are displayed correctly. My system's locales are in UTF-8, I'm using aspell with the French (Switzerland) dictionary.

The Spell Checker tab in Control Center has a list of Encoding choices. Nevertheless, it doesn't seems to have any effect. Furthermore, I've seen no documentation stating to what this encoding choice relates. I mention this there only because we are speaking about encodings.

Thanks,

Have a nice day,

Steph

The problem still happens in kmail-1.9.10.

If I type wrongly spelled words in a new mail window, in french like :
maitre chomage noel ca, they are displayed in red.

Then, the right click suggested list contains words like :
maître chômage Noël ça but don't contain the correct words :
maître chômage noël ça

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
