Description Jeff Mitchell 2005-03-23 15:53:26 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.3.5 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5-r1, ssp-3.3.2-3, pie-8.7.7.1)
OS: Linux

I have two computers, one with my music set up on a Samba share and the other with amaroK. I tried adding music to my collection over and over and it would never stay in my collection...it'd take a bit to rescan, but when it finished there'd be no music there. Eventually I changed the flags on my Samba share from read-only to read-write, and remounted the share. When I tried adding the music again, it finally worked.

I thought all of the info about the files in the collection was stored locally in my profile/in MySQL, so I'm not sure why you'd need write access, but that definitely made the difference.

I've added some files from a NTFS (thus read-only) partition, and had no problems, so that doesn't happen with all non-writeable filesystems. I've got no smb here, so can't test.

I just experienced this issue the other day, and filed a bug with gentoo about it. I can confirm this does seem to be a problem:

I'm reassigning this to TagLib, because the issue is apparently there. Many users report trouble with TagLib and samba. Perhaps wheels has an idea what it could be.
