Description Nicholas Allen 2005-03-18 19:22:55 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.2)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs

I have created an encrypted zip file using the -e option to the zip command. When I try to open this file in konqueror the zip kio slave is used and then I see the directory listing of the zip file. If I click on any file, however, it is not possible to display the content of the file. This is to be expected as I have never been asked for the password for the encrypted zip file.

So the zip io slave only works for non encrypted zip files. It would be really useful if it worked for encrypted zip files and asked for the password when opening it. This would be very handy for storing data on a USB disk that you didn't want anyone to be able to see. You could then save files into this encrypted zip file too directly from any KDE program.

Confirmed in current trunk too.

@Henrique: using ark or the dolphin ark context menu, when I try to extract files from a password protected .zip, zero-lenght files are created. and the password is not asked. Do you need a bugreport on ark (if not yet reported)?

Still present in 4.2.3 at least
Comment 3 Will Stephenson 2009-05-17 13:42:57 UTC
Changing severity because it appears to succeed while creating empty files as per #1
Comment 4 Raphael Kubo da Costa 2011-05-03 05:20:56 UTC
Confirming it. The bugs on the Ark side have been fixed, by the way.
Comment 5 Julian Steinmann 2018-07-21 12:23:36 UTC
I can still confirm this issue using KDE Frameworks 5.48. Steps to reproduce:
1. create an encrypted zip file using the zip -e option
2. enable the "Open archives as folder" option in Dolphin (should be in the "Navigation" tab)
3. navigate to the folder & open it
4. you can see all file names, but when trying to open them, the error "Could not read /path/to/file" appears.

I'll move this over to kio-extras, as the "kio" product is now obsolete.
