Version: CVS as of 20045-10-03 (using KDE KDE 3.2.2) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux Currently there are two very different types of shortcuts: Global shortcuts and Amarok-local shortcuts. Two distinct configuration menus are present and the amarok team has already defined the set of actions that must be assigned a global shortcut and which set of actions that must be assigned a local one. Instead of this predefinition-approach, I would like to see one single menu item, "Shourcuts", containig all actions. For each shortcut the user should be able to mark if the shortcut should be local or global. Bennefits: * This approach is more simple (only one configuration menu) * It is more flexible (every action can be assigned a global shourcut and every action can be assigned a amarok-local one). The shortcuts can hereby be assigned exactly as the user wants.
The shortcut dialogs are integral part of KDELIBS. They're part of the standard KDE look-and-feel.
Closing wontfix, as we're not gonna leave the KDE path here. HIG is the word.
Fair enough, I agree with the decision of following the KDE path (even though I think KDE has choosen the wrong strategy here). What about listing all actions in both configuration windows? Then the user still has an oppotunity to make every action local/global. Also an action could maybe be marked grey in the list in the one window if it already has a shortcut assignment in the other window.
I agree with skrald /the first and the last comment/ -- HIG should be for humans, right? Where is place for switchable shorcuts? None. There have to be switch-on something shortcut, and separate switch-off. Not flexible, not user-friendly. But I think it is good time to also make a report for kdelibs :-).
> Closing wontfix Btw. what with the easier solution? Make two sections in the shortcuts -- global and local. It is possible, other apps /konqueror, kmail/ have shortcuts organized that way.
