Description David Anderson 2005-03-09 12:22:33 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.3.2-1.7.2.kde, Fedora Core release 2 (Tettnang))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 20040412 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7-1.494.2.2

KMail has nice wizards for anti-virus and anti-spam.

What it wants now is a wizard for setting up PGP.

Presently the user has to do this:
1. Know that kgpg exists
2. Run kgpg, set up key, and not be confused by all the other functionality in kgpg
3. Go deep into the account settings in KMail, and add their gpg keys.

It would be much nicer this way:

1. Select "PGP wizard..." from the KMail menu

2. If more than one account exists, wizard asks which account you wish to set up PGP for. If only one account, it assumes you mean that one.

3. Wizard checks if gpg keys exists for the e-mail address associated with the chosen account; if they do and there is more than one, it asks you to choose one - if there is only one, it uses that. If there isn't one, then it offers to set one up for you. This would probably need some kind of DCOP communication with kgpg - or a library shared with kgpg.

4. Wizard tweaks all your settings as required! The wizard could also have an "Advanced..." button for the fine-grained options.

I think it should be a part of an extended initial setup wizard. When you first use KMail you are asked about name, email address, and more to get you started. I think there should be more, optional steps at the end. "Setup junk and spam filtering", "Setup privacy trough GnuPG".

This could be a good base for the application: http://dewinter.com/gnupg_howto/english/GPGMiniHowto.html

And I suggest calling it either "Kprivacy" or "KPG (KDE Privacy Guard).

"KPG - KDE wizard and introduction to privacy trough GnuPG in KMail"
A tool that allows you to create, import, manage, and revoke GnuPG keys right from KMail's configuration.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
