Version: (using KDE Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources OS: Linux I'm using IMAP account (not disconnected) in KMail (CVS 20050306). I think it's better to describe the bug step by step adducing screenshots http://home.onego.ru/~rmn/kde_bugs/kmail/ Step 1 At the first moment all cyrillic subject fields in the message list are displaying in latin diacritical marks and only one (currently selected) message's subject (no1) is displaying normally. Step 2 Then I go to the next "broken subject field" message (no2) - Its subject becomes dysplaying OK. And the previous subject field (no1) still looking fine. Step 3 But if I select the previous subject field (no1) - its subject field will be broken again. But no2 still looking fine. Step 4 Well, one more time: let's go to the field no2 once again. no1 is good, but no2 is broken again. Also I've also noticed (when doing screenshots) that if cyrillic subject field is broken when kmail window is active, it (the field) becomes normal when I'll select another application window (i.e. when kmail window becomes inactive).
Oops, I have noticed one VERY important detail: the problem appears only with messages which subject field is wrongly encoded, i.e. Instead of Subject: =?koi8-r?b?0NLP18XSy8E=?= these messages have raw cyrillic Subject: проверка Such messages are generated by buggy (or old) mail agents and forum boards ( phpbb2 (i'm sure in 2.0.11 and early version) is one of them -- it sends notification in russian with raw windows-1251 encoded subject field). So it's better to show such subject fields not in latin but in "default encoding" which is specifed by user. This method currently works in kmail for locally stored messages (POP3 mailbox).
I think I fixed this with r496943. If you still see this problem with the current KDE 4.3.1 version, please reopen.
