Description Mathieu Roy 2005-03-04 13:34:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.2)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

With the version kde I have, the printout font-size is always the one specified in the html page, no matter if I increased or decreased the font-size on the fly while browsing. That's annoying. If there are good reasons to be able to change the printed on screen font size, the same good reasons applies to the ability to be able to change the printed on paper font size.

I noticed two previous bug reports related to this bug I believe they do not exactly address this issue and, by the way, were reported as RESOLVED (WORKFORME) before the kde version I have was even released (in 2002). So I believe this bug is distinct from Bug 32522 and Bug 50230.

I have the same wish/problem in KDE 3.4: html-pages are always printed in a (in KDE 3.3.2 way too small and now in KDE 3.4 way too big) font size, decreasing the font size in the page-view alas does not decrease the font size in the print.

Dupe of bug #100604?
Comment 3 Mathieu Roy 2005-05-02 10:19:16 UTC
Well, bug #100604 is quite confusing ("font sizes in printed website pages (konqueror) are not independend from screen font sizes": but that's exactly what we want here, we want printed font size to be exactly the size shown on screen while browsing), seems to consider that there's a design issue to take into account.

While here, it's simple and crystal clear: printed size must take into account the fact that the user changed the size of webpage.

(but I guess that if this bug was fixed, the issue addressed in bug #100604 would probably no longer make any sense)

An alternative solution for both bugs, this and bug #100604, would be a changeable zoom-factor in the print preview which also changes the font for the printout of this one page. Then it is independent from the screen size as it is wished in 100604 and you can adjust it directly for a specific page.

I don't want to print all pages in the same font size, some look better with smaller fonts (and fit better to the sheet), some better with bigger fonts.

A very complicated solution.

I would personally not enjoy having two more buttons/zoom-factor while it's just so simple to have the existing button to do the job in first place.

We agree on that.
But adding new buttons / zoom-factor would be a plus, not a workaround.

Well, I'm no programmer, just a user ;)

I don't have an extra button in mind, I was refering to that already existing drop down list where you can select the view zoom in the print preview. But that has something to do with ghost- or some similar -view I guess? But wait - did I read a "so simple"? ;)

Dupe of bug 88307?

FWIW, Safari 1.2.4 changes the printed font size when the onscreen fontsize is changed.

Opera's way of letting the user control the scaling to fonts and images on paper printouts is also superior.

I'll set this bug to "confirmed" for now; it certainly is a valid feature to be accepted as a wishlist item for KDE4 (I doubt that anyone will have time and skills to fix it for the KDE 3.5.x line).
