Description Andreas Schallenberg 2005-02-22 18:17:16 UTC
Version: 0.8.92 (using KDE 3.3.2 Level "a" , SUSE 9.2 UNSUPPORTED)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-24.11-default

I refer to the marking of newsgroups as bold in the
groups tree view on the left. Whenever there are
unread entries, the groups are displayed bold.

Observation: One rarely reads all articles, so many
newsgroups stay bold despite the user having looked
over all thread titles and selected which he liked
to see.

If he looks for new articles on the server the previously
unread ones should not cause the group to be displayed in
bold from that time on. Only news from the very last
fetch should cause this.

The user now can clearly tell which groups to
inspect next.

If this behavior is not what you'd like to see
I suggest adding a "mark all articles as unread"
in the RMB context menu of the news server in that
tree view. This way the user could do it manually.

This should not be a wishlist report as it is a clear regression from previous versions. The group name used to be in bold when NEW messages are in the group (after a refresh), now it is on bold whenever there are UNREAD messages.

As mentioned in the original report, navigation through new messages is very difficult now.

(I can't seem to find an option to change this report into a regular bug instead of a whish, if someone knows how, please do)

Still the case in KNode 1.2.3 (KDE 3.5.5, Kubuntu Dapper Drake).

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug.
