It would be very helpful to have to possibility to display more than one line of information per message in the message list, e.g.

Sender (Date): Subject
First to lines of text

or something like this.  I saw this feature in Outlook (Argh), but I think it is great to improve usability.

Sometimes even Microsoft a god idea. 

Two or three preview lines of unread Messages in the Messagelist is an incredible big help in order to quickly get an overview over your messages

Partly, but bug 51264 also talks about having folder list, message list and preview pane side-by-side, which is not yet possible.
