Description Rene Horn 2004-08-12 22:47:54 UTC
Version: 3.2.2 (using KDE 3.2.3, (testing/unstable))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (Debian 20040422)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7

I'd like to see support for MagnetLink URIs. MagnetLink URIs seem to be some form of P2P downloading scheme. It's used by Project Gutenberg and some other places.

Here's a specification for the standard: http://magnet-uri.sourceforge.net/
Place where I originally learnt of it: http://www.magnetlinks.org/

It looks like this project is quite abandoned. Is this wish still valid?
Comment 2 Tristan Miller 2009-11-13 12:41:10 UTC
The specification page hasn't been updated since 2002, though I take this as evidence that the specification is stable rather than obsolete. It seems that MagnetLink URIs are widely supported by many popular BitTorrent clients. There are also browser plugins under active development.

KTorrent supports now Magnet URI: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214375

so maybe Konqeror should open Magnet URIs in KTorrent?

It should work since this commit:
