I discussed this with several people, including thiago.  It seems to be a good method of enabling the addition of many remote contacts to a single local account during the add contact wizard, with minimal impact to the existing flow and code.  Add more/fewer buttons to enable adding multiple accounts (as kmail filter configuration does).  Attached screenshots should be self-explanatory.

As an added bonus, protocols that support searching (i.e. ICQ) should have the search dialog split into a separate dialog (i.e. like Gadu), and this dialog can be reachable from a button in the add contact dialogs, and return values to the boxes on the add contacts pages.  See Search button in attached screenshots.

Could you make the pictures available again?

For the second part of the bug it seems to be available in 0.50.1 at least for the ICQ plugin there's a "search" button which will open an search dialog, where you can find another button called "add" which inserts the returned results.

I haven't tried KDE4-Kopete yet, but will the "add contact" dialogue now allow to add several contacts in one run?

If not so, this still is annoying.

Most preferrably, I could drag&drop search results to contact groups, and mark a combination in the list so they are added in one step.

An alternative could be relabling the "Ok" with "Add and Close" and adding an "Add" button.  If that won't fit some style guides, give the "Ok" button a tooltip "Add and Close" and add an "Add" button with tooltip "Add selected contacts".
