Sorry, I don't understand: "I want in amaroK see possibility to create own playlists. I want o have a few playlists."

We provide shoutcast streaming already. See the playback tab in amaroK's options.

Chreers -Max

Uhm, it doesn't work on my amarok... ;/ (I'm listenig http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1039 and I see that in title.

"orry, I don't understand: "I want in amaroK see possibility to create own

I want create 2 playlists and switch with them (search should work only on pickec playtlist). I hope, you know what I wrote ;)
Comment 3 Max Howell 2004-04-13 00:33:37 UTC
I have tabbed playlist handling on my TODO, but I'm not ready to implement it yet myself, and am unwilling to add a lot of code to the already large base. But we'll see.

The shoutcast stream in question does not work, and does in xmms. I'll upgrade this to a bug as I think the other request is a duplicate anyway.

Thanks!

If it's in TODO I will wait for it, thanks :]

Ok. I want too see amarok that display title from stream such as xmms does.

Thanks!

Title streaming for that URL now works, re-classifying as a wish.
Comment 6 Adrian 2004-06-13 14:48:04 UTC
Yes, it works :)

I'm waiting for improve in playlist :]
Comment 7 Damir Perisa 2005-02-16 03:22:22 UTC
tabbed playlists would be really cool!
Comment 8 underlord 2005-02-23 03:21:56 UTC
i don't want tabbed playlists, they arn't useful enough to be worth the bloat.
Comment 9 Damir Perisa 2005-02-23 14:41:53 UTC
on comment #8:
if you can think of another way how to have more playlists, feel free to tell us. i have very good experience from tabbed browsers (mozilla, konqueror) and since they are tabbed i really feel handicapped in a non-tabbed one - also i use tabbed aterm and have good experience using more consoles in one windows
Comment 10 Gábor Lehel 2005-05-16 20:06:03 UTC
Well, here's an idea (tabs would be just *ugly*, imo).
Handle them via the playlist browser, like so:
- there's the various playlists listed, basically like now, perhaps with cosmetic changes to better accomodate the below
- one is clearly, visibly selected as the active playlist (perhaps with the same fading animation as the active track? ;), this is the one tracks actually get played from
- *however*, and this is the important part, it's not necessarily the one that's shown in the playlist view. you can (double)click on any playlist and it'll be shown in the playlist view and you can edit it and stuff.
- change the active playlist by showing a different playlist and causing a song to be played from it (play, queue, whatever), or by rightclicking on a playlist and selecting 'play' (as opposed to 'show')
(- alternately, you could play around with what the default action should be for (double)clicking - playing, showing, or both - but the main idea is to seperate the two (in the rightclick menu at least))

Tabed playlist will rock!
It will enable you to use amaroK as the "standard player for all things audio" :) You could open external files w/o messing about with your current playlist because they will in a new playlist..

Is this idea dead? :(
Comment 16 Sam Baumhaus 2006-03-05 01:34:08 UTC
Good question, is this idea deas? That would be such a great feature and this request is now about 2 years old. Pleas make something like "Tabbed Playlist"
Comment 17 Marcel 2006-03-16 12:54:56 UTC
Looks like nobody cares, bummer... :(
Comment 18 Tony Montana 2006-04-19 02:26:15 UTC
Tabbed playlists would not be such a great idea. I think it would clutter the interface unnecessarily. AmaroK already has too many tabs in my opinion.

I do think that it would be useful to edit a playlist that is not playing. Perhaps one way would be to create a "Now Playing" entry in the playlists tab that contains the list of tracks that are playing. This would allow editing another playlist in the main display without a problem.

Three points:

1) If tabbed playlists in amaroK acted like those in Konqueror then the tabs
would disappear when there was only one playlist, uncluttering the interface.

2) Since there are already tabs in Konqueror and Konsole, users are expecting
tabs already so adding tabs to amaroK unifies the UI (IMO).

3) I use tabs in both Konsole and Konqueror and find them useful. But I think
that tabs in amaroK would be even more useful than in those other two apps. The key thing is that I can always open up another Konsole or Konqueror window
but I can't open up another amaroK window.

When I add new music to my collection, I find that it is very convenient to
edit the tags in the amaroK playlist. But this often means that I can't use
the playlist for listening to music at the same time as adding music to my
collection. My current way of dealing with this is to use a different player
for playing music when I am using amaroK to manage my collection.

Another point:

I often listen to audio books that have been converted to audio files. Unlike
music files, it is a little hard to keep track or remember exactly what file in
what chapter I've last listened to. If I want to use amaroK to listen to audio
books then I can't use it for listening to music unless I write down a note
to bookmark where in the book I've stopped listening. My solution for this
problem is to again use a different player for audio books, a flash mp3 player
in this case.

I realize that tabs would be non-trivial to implement well. For example, it
would have to be very clear which playlist was actually playing. But if done
well, tabs could really take amaroK to the next level IMO.
Comment 20 Jean Michel Feltrin 2006-08-01 03:38:21 UTC
I Agree with Jim's points, It could be useful also to deal with the playlists,
just imagin with you would send some playlist to your mp3player but with some changes you could get files from the actual playlist to the device, and also check the diferences between them.
And an other possibility is add into the actual playlist manager the possibility to create empty playlists..

Tnkz.!
Comment 21 Marten Seemann 2006-08-07 15:34:51 UTC
Yeah, I also think this would be a good idea. There should be the possibility to rename tabs and to put the content of several playlists into a single one in a new tab.
Comment 22 John E 2006-10-15 20:41:25 UTC
I add my vote to this. It would be really great.

Also, if it's not too huge to start with, and if you think it's possible, I'm willing to take a look at it (I'm a C++ developer but no knowledge of QT or KDE). I'll gladly have some pointers though :)

Thanks

We always wish to extend our development team. If you would like to
contribute, don't hesitate to contact us on our mailing list: amarok@kde.org.
Also we all hang on IRC, #amarok on irc.freenode.net
Comment 24 Gašper Ažman 2006-11-05 09:48:02 UTC
My vote too.
This is amarok's chance to provide something no player I know has, and be truly unique in that regard. Currently, I use xmms for audiobooks for the aforementioned reason as well, and I don't want to even have it installed! :)
Comment 25 Marcel 2007-01-24 14:45:52 UTC
Another vote for tabbed playlists! :)
Comment 26 kodziro 2007-02-01 18:30:31 UTC
Another vote for tabbed playlists! :)

foobar 2000, kaffeine(?),konqueror, firerfox, opera, kate, kile, linuxdcpp, konsole, kadu, all this programs use tabs

do you really want to make Amarok last audio player that uses tabbed playlist (like IE70 ;) in www browser) ??
Comment 27 Erik 2007-02-16 12:58:25 UTC
Another vote for tabbed playlists! :)
Comment 28 Jose Calleja 2007-02-28 02:39:48 UTC
it would be great to be able to manage different playlists with tabs, just like as in a WebBrowser
Comment 29 Sean Madsen 2007-03-21 01:36:59 UTC
I would really like to have tabbed playlists show up in separate tabs just like konqueror!

Closing, as we have no intention to implement this.
Comment 33 changaco 2008-02-16 10:16:19 UTC
Can we know why you don't want to implement ? Is it too much work or do you think that it's a bad idea ?
Comment 34 07 2008-02-16 20:37:16 UTC
So unfortunate the flat response to our request for several playlist. No matter how it would be implemented, whether or not tabbed, it would be an huge Enhancement for Amarok. Is there someone in the team with sense of beauty and ergonomic?

Regards, Werner
Comment 35 Mark Kretschmann 2008-02-16 20:42:18 UTC
Sorry, we're all insensitive clods.
Comment 36 07 2008-02-16 23:14:58 UTC
;) hahaha. yes.
Comment 37 Marijn Schouten 2008-02-22 13:18:51 UTC
I'm not so sure of tabbed playlists, but I'd sure like to have a second playlist visible that I could drag songs to from the first playlist and vice versa.
Comment 38 changaco 2008-04-27 15:42:09 UTC
I tried tabbed playlists on foobar2000 on Windows. I really love this feature and I would like to have this feature implemented in my favorite music player so I hope you Amarok developers will implement it some day ...
