Description Thomas Schwarzgruber 2003-10-28 20:13:03 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc-3.3.1
OS: Linux

Since kuickshow from cvs on 26.10. the picture isn't correct shown when changing to fullscreen mode. It shows correct in window mode but if you change into fullscreen just a black screen is shown. If i change back to window mode the window stays black. I have to restart kuickshow to get any picture correctly shown.

Confirmed.

Same problem here (KDE-CVS 2003-10-27, KDE-beta1).

Black Fullscreen Bug

Fixes the symptoms, not the cause.
IMO the problem is, that the X Window used for displaying the pixmap somehow
disappears or destroys. Raising, mapping, etc didn't work, so this patch simply
recreates it. :(

Is there a reason for using plain X windows ?
Comment 4 Rob Kaper 2003-11-05 23:03:17 UTC
The reason is probably speed?
Comment 5 Dik Takken 2003-11-10 12:58:18 UTC
This bug is also present in KDE 3.2 Beta 1.
Comment 6 Ricardo Ferreira 2003-11-15 17:30:37 UTC
I also confirm this. Very annoying bug.
Comment 7 Melchior Franz 2003-11-16 16:47:03 UTC
The author apparently knows about that problem. The cvs logs to
kuickshow/src/imagewindow.cpp say:

===
revision 1.55

working fullscreen mode with the new kwin (only works properly with
qt-copy + patches -- I really hope that those go into Qt proper, soon).

CCMAIL: Lubos Lunak <l.lunak@suse.cz>

I just applied that patch and, indeed, kuickshow works again. :-)
Comment 8 Anne-Marie Mahfouf 2003-11-25 03:32:05 UTC
I still have this black screen on Full Screen mode, with kde from cvs HEAD. Confirmed by another person.
Comment 9 Thiago Macieira 2003-11-25 03:50:13 UTC
Same here, HEAD 20031121, so after the patch was applied.

You misunderstand. This is a patch to Qt and resides in the
"qt-copy/patches" directory (0026-netwm-fullscreen.patch?).
It isn't applied in cvs -- you have to apply it yourself using
"apply_patches".

Comment 11 Frédéric COIFFIER 2003-12-11 11:11:37 UTC
The bug seems to be still present un KDE 3.2 beta 2...
If the correction is to patch Qt, when will Qt contain this correction ?
Will official Qt version contain a correction before the KDE 3.2 official release ?

It's in the current qt-copy -- that is, at least Qt 3.3 snapshot 20031220.

I confirm the prensence of this problem still in KDE 3.2 beta 2 on SuSE 8.2
Comment 14 Rob Kaper 2004-01-18 04:09:25 UTC
This bug was fixed with Qt 3.3, no need to confirm it's still broken for Qt 3.2, it always will be. ;-)

Carsten, do you happen to know if KDE 3.2 *requires* Qt 3.3?

Right.

> Carsten, do you happen to know if KDE 3.2 *requires* Qt 3.3?

No, unfortunately I don't know, I can hardly follow the mailinglists
currently and haven't been on IRC for quite a while, so I don't know
of any decision about that.

Cheers
Carsten

Comment 16 Hackeron 2004-02-14 04:24:03 UTC
no, KDE 3.2 doesn't require QT 3.3, worst yet, I compiled QT and re-compiled kdegraphics and this very problem persists, please fix.
Comment 17 Krystof Zacek 2004-03-03 16:05:26 UTC
I confirm this bug for KDE 3.2 (BRANCH >=20040204), installed from current Debian experimental binary packages (Kuickshow 0.8.6). I think the problem is in Kuickshow, not Qt since, the screen blacks out when going to fulscreen mode and the window remains black even after returning to the windowed mode.
Since my heavy use of Kuickshow I consider this bug critical and I wonder the the CLOSED status of the bug means here!
Comment 18 Daniel Schmid 2004-04-07 02:35:27 UTC
I agree with Krystof Zacek I consider this bug critical as well and it still occurs on Mandrake 10 (KuickShow version 0.8.6). Still the very best image/slideshow viewer around. Thank you.
Comment 19 Juggy 2004-06-11 12:57:44 UTC
I can only emphasize on this: It is DAMMNED annoying. Kuickshow is the best image viewer on Linux, and on each of my machines (DEBIAN) it stopped working since KDE 3.2. Why is this closed??
Comment 20 Sean E. Russell 2004-06-11 14:16:23 UTC
FYI, this has been fixed on Gentoo for several months now. Is it distribution dependant?

This behavior depends on the Qt version used. There appears to be no
developer interested in fixing it for the old Qt version, and Kuickshow
works fine with the new.

I believe this has been explained several times before during the lifetime
of this bug, so it's unlikely I'll keep myself cc:ed if people keep asking
the same. ;-)

Same problem here, but I'm runing QT 3.3.3, KDE 3.3.0 on Gentoo. Strange.
Comment 25 Sean E. Russell 2005-01-12 13:57:30 UTC
I recommend re-opening this bug, even if the underlying cause is different. It can reliably be reproduced by running xorg with X composition (option "Composite") enabled, and then using Kuickshow in fullscreen mode.

Consequently, the quick fix is to disable Composite rendering in X.
