After some observations, I have noticed a pattern to the unexpected re-arrangement of desktop icons. It seems that KDE places the DVD-ROM icon in the second position down from the top left corner, then the windowsC icon below that. The icons that were in those positions are moved so that those two can occupy the second and third positions every time. This happens for all users. This problem doesn't seem to exists with KDE 3.1.4, so I am closing it. This problem exist in KDE 3.4.2. But appeared when I put more icons on my desktop. See the attachements.
