Description Bernhard Vornefeld 2003-04-10 05:18:36 UTC
Version: 1.5.1 (using KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-4GB-athlon

It would be nice to have a tool that finds duplicate mails using different (user selectable) critera
- totally identical
- different sender and/or subject and/or header - but identical body
Recursive searching in sub-folders should be possible

One part of the tool can be integrated into the search messages dialog "Find
Duplicates". Leaving other criteria blanc means "Find all duplicates"
In the results part of the window an option "Select twins" that selects all duplicates of a mail, leaving one unselected
other options:
- select twins only in the same folder
- replace duplicate with shortcut (requires new general feature in Kmail)
Important: The usability of the result-window has to be enlarged in a way that selecting, deleting and dragging of results is possible

Another part of the tool:
Options in extras-menu and context menu:
- find duplicates (to this mail)
- find duplicates (in this folder)
- find duplicates (to mails in this folder)

motivation / reasons:
- indentical duplicates because of pop3-complications or KMail errors (deleted mails appearing again) in the past
- mails with identical bodies from thematically related mailing-list

The current development version already has a simple duplicate removal function.
Comment 2 Helge Hielscher 2004-09-21 13:23:21 UTC
Another problem with the current duplicate removal is that it only works on one single folder, but this may be solved with bug 88556 (selecting many folders simultaneously and recursiveness).

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
