I and several people on the kde mailing list have been having the following problem.  Not have been able to resolve.  Bug confirmed on Redhat 8.0 and Gentoo's kde 3.1 package.

1) I do not know if this has been previously reported. Anyway, in konqueror lan 
browser for KDE 3.1 (Redhat 8.0), when clicking the SMB or FISH sub folder of 
a networked equipment (lan://localhost/machine.domain.com), konqueror try to 
open the folder "lan://localhost/machine.domain.com/SMB" 
(lan://localhost/machine.domain.com/FISH) and does not show anything. If you 
point konqueror directly to "SMB://machine.domain.com" it shows the available 
SMB share points on "machine.domain.com"

The thing is that in konqueror on KDE 3.03 (redhat 8.0), clicking the SMB sub 
folder automatically switch to the SMB protocol and shows the available share 
points (SMB://machine.domain.com) correctly.

Is this a bug or there is a method to force konqueror to switch protocols 
correctly?

Weird!. I Tried "rlan:/machine.domain.com" and it shows the SMB, FISH etc. 
folders. But if I click on SMB it open "rlan:/machine.domain.com/SMB" (same 
problem as "lan://").

One thing I note is that on machines with a Web Server (HTTP), clicking on the 
HTTP icon does not try to open "lan://machine.domain.com/HTTP" as it does 
with SMB folders, but switch to the http:// protocol 
(http://machine.domain.com) correctly (both lan:// and rlan:/). After some 
test I found that HTTP y FTP  folders works OK while SMB, FISH y NFS folders 
fails to switch to proper protocol. Could it be a problem related to missing 
MIME types and/or definitions?

typing "lan://localhost" in the location bar renders a list of ips on the 
network and clicking the litt [+] next to them gives me a list of the 
services running on that box.  ie:

...
[-] 192.168.1.200
    + FISH
    + SMB
[-] 192.168.1.201
    + SMB
...

but clicking on either "FISH" or "SMB" only gives me an empty window... even 
though i *know* that machine is sharing files over that protocol.  
smb://192.168.1.201/sharename will bring up files, so what am i missing here?

4.) ************************************* 
Clicking on the sidebar button gives me
lan://localhost/ which shows all the computers on the
network. So far, so good.

Clicking on a computer works correctly, and it even
correctly detects which services it provides
lan://localhost/10.0.0.1 will show me that I have a
samba share and an http server on my router.  

The problem is, when I click on the smb folder icon,
it will just show an empty folder with 
lan://localhost/10.0.0.1/SMB in the address bar.

However, if I manually type in 
smb://10.0.0.1/ or even smb:/ smb:/FAMILY
smb:/FAMILY/ROUTER/ to browse the workgroup, it works
correctly.

obviously this seems to be a widespread and annoying problem for users.  Is there a fix?
