Description J. Woch 2003-01-28 21:35:38 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.0.99)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

It would be great if kbanner could display dynamically generated messages instead of those ones typed into the setup dialog box. E.g., each time the saver is activated another fortune is displayed, or a randomly selected part from the linux sources, or some news, or whatever.

Solution: provide a method to execute a (shell) command and feed its output into kbanner.
The (hopefully) attached patch performs this by (optionally) executing the string of the message QLineEditbox as being a (shell) command. Kiosk mode is checked, sanity not.

I too would like to have a more configurable banner. Initially I wanted to display just a text file, like "I am in the garden." A shell script may be even nicer though; a KDE Taskbar textbox would be amazing! :)

I like the request and second it.

The screen locker architecture changed with Plasma 5. The classic screen savers are no longer supported. The 4.x series won't see any further feature development, so this feature request won't be implemented as it doesn't apply to our current version any more.

I want to thank you for your feature suggestion and I'm sorry that we were not able to provide the requested feature before we retired the affected component.
