SUMMARY
I wanted to install Neon User Edition on a virtual machine since there's no Windows version of KPatience, but I can't even install it

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download User Edition ISO from KDE Neon site
2. Boot the ISO in VMware
3. Attempt to install and watch as the installer crashes and you can't even generate a backtrace in the menu and have to resort to coredumpctl

OBSERVED RESULT
Instant installer crash

EXPECTED RESULT
Installer working

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Host machine: Windows 11 24H2
VM: Just a VMware VM set up for Ubuntu (what KDE Neon is based on)
ISO used is from the 27th of April 2025 (but downloaded around 20 minutes before this review was made)

weirdly enough I tried running the unstable installer from the 20th of april and it launched so it must be a User Edition issue

Can confirm this with a QEMU/KVM machine and with neon-user-20250501-1319.iso

I assume this an issue in the Neon image, not an upstream issue in Calamares.

I can confirm that this issue is not confined to a VM, as it also flashes on real hardware

I can get the crash on bare metal only if I have a drive connected that is not partitioned. 
And a virtual drive in virt-manmager/qemu is unpartitioned.

Weird, I'm getting this despite all my drives being partitioned

Test the new current ISO image, which has the libkpmcore fixes and appears to have fixed this, and a crash in Partition Manager.
