If you change the panel's alignment to something other than centered, does the issue go away? If so, this should have been fixed by Bug 488174. Created attachment 171137 [details] attachment-3370006-0.html Tried changing all parameters and move the panel to all positions to see what would happen. No combination worked. But then I tried a few more things, tried removing widgets from the panel one by one. When I removed Catwalk it worked, so that was the problem? For me it's "fixed", the but seems to be on Catwalk. See my comment on https://store.kde.org/p/2137844. :( I rewrote the widget to fix this and passed it on to the author, but it looks like it hasn't been updated with those changes yet. *** Bug 494258 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Created attachment 183703 [details]
Flamegraph, when CatWalk runs wild
I've been running an older version of CatWalk, namely 2.1 and ran into this as well on Plasma 6.4.3
Nate, do you think this is a purely downstream issue or not rather an upstream Qt issue, which should be reported and fixed? Something seems to trigger an endless loop. Please the attached flamegraph.
Secondly, if those applets ran in a different thread, wouldn't it help to keep the main plasmashell unblocked in such cases and be considered for a future architecture?
It's purely a CatWalk issue. While it would be nice if 3rd-party widgets couldn't blow up Plasmashell, that would require major re-architecting. There are thoughts about sandboxing widgets and running them in separate processes, but they haven't been fleshed out into concrete plans yet. |
