OBSERVED RESULT
mp4, mkv and gifs appear as static images instead of a preview of the file.
pdf, epub and other document files don't have a thumbnail.

EXPECTED RESULT
Thumbnails for pdf and other similar formats.
Ability to play the video inside of Krusader as in versions prior to the Kde 6 release.

You need the KF5 versions of the thumbnailers

Is it on kio5-extras or is it some other package? Sorry if this is not right place to ask

I have the same problem and kio5 and kio5-extras is installed (on Arch). I think this is a valid bug.

Update: The root cause is that the thumbnailers like ffmpegthumbs shipped in the distributions are KF6 based and are not compatible with KF5. The best solution is to port Krusader to KF6 which is currently WIP (see https://invent.kde.org/utilities/krusader/-/issues/28 ).

So, the bug is valid - there is a defect and cannot be directly be solved by users. But Krusader needs to be ported to KF6 to fix this.

Fixed in current master - Krusader was ported to KF6.
