While trying to extend the desktop to the right using the panel applet, nothing happens.

If I unify the display output, I'm then able to extend to the right. If I change the order of the displays, or revert to using only the laptop screen I end up getting a crash.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

I was able to start using Wayland since finding I was missing the package libnvidia-egl-wayland1, and in Wayland this crash and issue isn't present.
