Bad idea. going backward from 8.0.0 to 7.x will make the database not compatible due to internal migration of the database structure. If you have database backup, i recommend to restore files as well. Also check well that digiKam 8.0.0 is well uninstalled. I'll uninstall and restore my backup Please try the upcoming digiKam-8.1.0 from here: https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Maik I also reproduce this issue. I went from 7.3.0 to 8.1.0 though. So whatever fixes are in 8.1.0 do not solve the problem (at least for me). Do you have AVIF images or video files encoded with AV1 in your collection? Maik No. I only have .mp4, .jpg, .png, .jpeg, .3gp, .gif. Perhaps I'm running into a different issue? I will say that I did not get any event view error show. Just the splash screen went away. I used DebugView to look for errors from DigiKam, but I did not see anything. The last debug print from DigiKam was the loading of generic_digitalscanner_plugin.dll. After that no log output. At this point I've successfully migrated back to 7.3.0. Feel free to ask me to look in event viewer for events from DigiKam 8.1.0, or to look in AppData/elsewhere for any log files 8.1.0 might have left around. Please try again and delete the "generic_digitalscanner_plugin.dll" first. Maik I need to go run some errands. I will endeavor to do as requested later tonight. Thanks for the patience. The "generic_DigitalScanner_Plugin.dll" must not be included in a digiKam 8.x.x installation at all. Presumably you once uninstalled a digiKam version incorrectly, it's clear that it then crashes. You may still have "old" plugins in the directory. Uninstall digiKam, remove the digiKam folder under "Program Files" if it is still there. Maik > You may still have "old" plugins in the directory. Uninstall digiKam, remove the digiKam folder under "Program Files" if it is still there.
Doing a manual uninstall of 7.3.0, then install of 8.1.0, resulted in a well working experience.
Regarding what happened originally, I tried to do in-app update but that was unsuccessful due to a download error (I think it was a "not found" error?). I then decided to download the 8.1.0 installer and run it. If I was supposed to run the 7.3.0 uninstaller first, I will say that was not made clear. Neither the 8.1.0 installer, nor any of the digiKam pages I visited to obtain it (/download/, /download/binary/) mention needing to do that. So if that is case, then perhaps those things could be updated to help prevent this in the future.
Thanks for the help!
The Windows Installer always checks whether a digiKam version is installed and offers to uninstall it, otherwise the installation will not continue. Maik |
