JFYI in the upcoming 23.04 release, you can annotate immediately when using Rectangular Region mode. The suggestion makes sense anyway though, since when using a different mode, the result is a screenshot in the main window and you have to manually show the annotation tools. Perhaps we could even remove the separate "annotations mode" and just always have the annotation toolbar visible in the main window. Having enjoyed the usability of Flameshot in this regard, I support this idea.
Do you feel this is still necessary with the current version of spectacle? With the better-integrated annotations editor built into the Rectangular Region mode, personally I don't feel as much need for this anymore. Dan might feel differently of course.
